I’ve always heard… “A picture is worth a thousand words”! I’m guessing whoever said this must have been in Norway at the time!! This place is incredible… I’d say Alaska on steroids!!
Our first stop was Alesund , voted the prettiest city in Norway… it was beautiful from the sail-in to the view of the entire city from Mt. Aksla. The weather was equally excellent as our weather streak continued (50 to 60 degree temperatures) with light showers thrown in for good measure.
We headed north to Hellsylt (Norway) for a short stop to let off a tour group… for an eight-hour overland trip by bus through the fjords to meet up with the ship in Geiranger. We passed on this caper, choosing instead to stay on the ship and sail slowly through the fjords and view things from the water. The photos above are representative of the things we saw… and our weather streak went another day (not above 60 degrees)!
Geiranger is a very small city (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) situated at the end of a beautiful fjord. Another axiom to go with the “picture… thousand words”… when in Geiranger it did seemed like we were “a million miles from nowhere”. There were three cruise ships in this tiny town at one time in addition to the local Norwegian tourists... but it was an excellent “photo op”!
The big finish was cruising back out of the fjord… the same way we came in (different side of the ship)… it was just as enjoyable going as it was coming (a little cooler on the deck however… low 50’s)
We arrive in Belfast (Northern Ireland) at noon on Saturday…
