Arrived in Venice, WOW yes you drive over from mainland on double lane road then can only go as far as Roma Plaza as no cars are allowed or can get onto the island of Venice. We used the cruise terminal car park to park our car while we stayed on the island as we will be catching the cruise ship on Saturday. OK what an amazing sight, you cross a bridge (with steps) carrying all your luggage and then we walked along the canal, through a lane way to the next canal turned left and crossed another bridge and arrived at our hotel. Its a common thing to see many people with luggage around Venice going to and from their hotels, you can use water taxi (very expensive) or water bus if you know where you are going. We unpacked and then purchased our 3day water bus tickets and hit the town. We went to Saint Marks Square, Rialto bridge and along many of the narrow maze like streets full of leather goods, glass products, and many many tourist goodies. We enjoyed tea at a fab Italian restaurant in classic narrow lane way and loved travelling the water bus at night up and down the main canal with all the beautiful buildings all with coloured lights. The gondolas very, very popular but by night they are packed away. Venice is an amazing city and very, very unique, a special place.
