We landed at Guilin airport, cleared Chinese Customs, and came out to find a woman holding a sign that said BRENT FITZGERALD. That caught us by surprise. It was a taxi driver the hotel had arranged for us. We took an hour drive through the night to the town of Yangshuo. It was an interesting initial experience. We could also see the silhouettes of all the mountains around us.
The retreat is relaxing and gives a good local experience, but also provides some needed western necessities, thankfully!
The weather is extremely humid. Sebastian says it is probably the warmest he's ever felt.
Yesterday, we went into the town of Yangshuo by bicycle--wow! We then went on a river tour of the Li River. Nice, but tons of Chinese tourists. They would wave as their boat past by us, and if we waved back, they would go crazy. At one stop, a whole group, maybe 10-15, came to us and started taking a lot of pictures of them with us. Everyone in the group wanted one... Crazy! I guess they seldom see Caucasians!
We are about to head out again today and do some more activities. I will post again before leaving Yangshuo tomorrow!
