BARNES CROSSING RV PARK, TUPELO, MS. 7/15/11
This is the park where we spent our first night on the road on this trip and tonight should be the last.
Another early start this morning. We were leaving the park by 0800. Drove a couple miles to gas up and then hit I40 for some more eastbound. No tail wind today, the wind is out of the east...right on the nose... Maybe 15mph. Just enough to cut the miles per gallon.
We found a rest stop for lunch that was within two miles of being exactly half way on today's trip. It was very hot outside, so I started the generator again and ran the A/C while we ate. Edie laid down on the couch for a while, but the road got rough close to Memphis and she gave up. She is still having pain in her back and right leg.
I40 took us into Memphis and then we made our way to US78, the divided highway that runs through Tupelo into Birmingham, AL. The road condition on it was not good...lots of bumps. I think it gets better south of Tupelo.
Our arrival in Tupelo was at 3:30...I stopped and gassed up on the way to the park, and we were able to leave the car hooked on in the site, so tomorrow's getaway will be quick and simple. The distance tomorrow is 491 miles to home. We should get in between 7 and 8 in the evening. I will close this journal out then.
