We decided that the drive to Calgary was exactly the same time whichever way we went so it was off to Jasper. At the end of BC Hwy #24 there is a downhill section that is 6 km with no switchbacks and it's 9 % grade. (STEEP) Heated up the brakes but not bad enough that you could smell them. We then headed north on HWY 5 and just north of Clearwater, BC we ran into a terrible accident. A tanker semi had pulled out to pass a minivan and the van turned left in front of him. Tanker turned on side and blocked road. Van stayed upright but one person in van was seriously injured. Truck driver walked away as did two other people in van. We were about 6the in line as we approached the accident and could envision another 6-8 wait. However there was a slight space on the shoulder and traffic started to move through the opening. We followed and made it past the accident. At that point there was nothing that we could do at the accident site so we headed towards Jasper. A beautiful drive after that following the North Thompson River. Arrived at Jasper shortly after 5:00 PM and got a great huge site at Wapiti Campground. Left the truck hooked so we could get an early start in the morning. We are looking forward to the drive to Lake Louise via the Icefields Parkway.
