| Happy 24th Birthday Dan! A 4.30am wake up call and it's off to the airport to catch our flight to Athens. Not having checked in on-line we don't get a seat together on the plane........ We arrive Athens airport to be welcomed with 34 degrees, a nice change fom UK weather! We meet Pete and Tash at the airport and we are off on the packed train for the CBD. 45min on the train, 5min walk to Athens Style Hostel to check-in, put the air-con on in our room and we are out the door to pick up our ferry tickets and explore this very sad looking place. We wonder through the Flea Market, stopping off for a Mythos amd Vergina (Greek beer) on a roof top beer garden with views over Athens and a great view of the Temple of Hephaestus. By this stage we are getting hungry and order a delicious dinner of Greek salads and kebabs - yummo! As the sunsets we walk up the hill to the Acropolis, taking in the magnificent view of the Parthenon and skyline of Athens. We wander back through the busy cosmopolitan strip/street stalls, back to the hostel for a beer on the rooftop bar, taking in the amazing light show of Athens, especially that of the Acropolis. |
