2011 Hogarths on the move again - to places afar travel blog

A wonderful thunderstorm through the night and some welcome rain. The thunder was just amazing – moving away only to return again and again – certainly made the boat vibrate.

In the morning we notice that the river has risen overnight and we feel quite comfortable progressing.

We stop in at Condom a great little town. Unfortunately, being Sunday, everything is closed except for a couple of cafes. We try again to find a bar or something with a TV to catch some of the Le Tour but as usual nothing going – don’t the French watch?

A superb Church is open – from the 1300s I think. We wander the lovely narrow streets and come across a secondary school – part of which was built in the 1100s.

The weather is now warmer and slightly muggy after the rain and we return to Saint Christophe for the last part of our journey.

We have to be in Valance Sur Baise by nine tomorrow morning but, as the locks don’t open until nine, we have to get there tonight.

Megan goes for a run and Toby and Kim ride into the village itself – basically on top of the hill – what little there is. Quite a ride for them.

We have our last meal – another chicken risotto – and then start the process of sorting out the kitchen etc and doing some washing – the machine takes about three hours and even then we had to turn it off to get the washing out.

And so ends our canal boat trip. We are all a little in love with France – could move here in a flash.
