Getting ready for a ride

an evening ride

Another bright sunny morning, goodbye to Amy and David, the company of whom we enjoyed even if so brief. They to Bordeaux and we five to Agen, a journey of five hours, through huge fields of cereals being harvested with enormous combines and equally huge tractors and trailers. Also sunflowers all standing to attention with their brilliant golden heads worshipping their namesake.

Eventually the grain gives way to mixed farming, low hills, little villages and the vineyards of the Bordeaux region. Fat cattle, horses and quite enjoyable country.

Charlie flawlessly guides us to Locoboat and ‘Saint Christophe’ our home for the next 7 days.

We load our provisions and bicycles, try to absorb the briefing, technical and tourist, and with Sgt Toby at the helm commence the summer holiday sans motor vehicle.

The Australian flag is up on a makeshift jack staff (who needs a broom) and boxing kangaroo is tied and pinned on the side.

We motor away for a couple of kilometres, moor on the side of the canal and have a home cooked meal before some of us take to the track on our bicycles in the evening cool. The sun doesn’t set here until after 10pm.
