View from our campsite of the Rhine River

The drive from Stuttgart was very scenic with lots of fields and vineyards. Our next stop was to spend a couple days along the Rhine River. Our base was a small campground called Camping Sonnenstrand in the little town of Bacharach. Our site was right along the Rhine, where we could look out at the passing boat traffic on the river. We could walk to the boat docks and town within less than half mile. Perfect!

Bacharach consists primarily of two parallel streets that stretch parallel to the Rhine along the base of a hillside. We spent a couple hours walking around the picturesque town to see the many half-timbered buildings. We had a lovely dinner at a cute little place called Cafe Restaurant Rusticana. The owner was a delightful lady who was very interesting to talk with while we enjoyed a great meal. Jose had venison with roasted potatoes and cranberry sauce, Jill had rabbit in a creamy sauce with mashed potatoes and both meals also came with tasty vegetable soup, salad and excellent red cabbage as a vegetable. And we couldn't resist the homemade apple strudel with ice cream. A wonderful meal.
