Start of the Alaska Highway

At the Dawson Creek Visitor Centre

After a short, but wet and windy drive, we arrived at Dawson Creek where we will stay put for two days, hoping for better weather. We're at the Mile 0 RV Park. The man who checked us in said he wished he could give us better news but they are expecting a lot of rain, maybe two to three inches. YIKES!

We stopped at the visitor centre, where we spotted a couple taking pictures under the Alaska Highway sign. We asked if they wanted a photo of the two of them together and they obliged us too. Turns out they are on their way home to Kodiak, Alaska after vacationing in South Texas. They had just come on the road we didn't take (from Prince George) and said it was pretty rough going with just one lane open. They had a washout a couple weeks ago and are just now getting the road open.

Good thing we brought our winter clothes since we'll be needing them, for a while anyway.
