We haven't been doing much exciting the last couple of days. Visited a couple of museums. Visited an old creamery that is now a bird sanctuary, but only saw a few ducks and sandhill cranes (the same type you can see in Nebraska in spring and fall). Visited the wooden bowl factory and watched them turn birch bowls. Tried to visit the large animal research station at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, but they were closed for the day. Did some grocery shopping
It's been pretty rainy here the last couple of days. We've spent quite a bit of time in the motorhome playing cards or watching TV. The 4th isn't much of a big deal up here. They had a bunch of celebrations on the summer solstice. That seems to be a bigger deal. Don't expect much in the way of fireworks since it never gets dark.
We're moving to Talkeetna tomorrow - starting our southward migration. We have reservations for a 5 hour jet boat excursion on Wednesday. They supposedly take you 60 miles sightseeing on the local rivers. This was recommended to us by one of the locals. Since tomorrow's a travel day, I probably won't update this journal until Wednesday night.
