Danielle and Jay's 2011 Summer RV Trip travel blog

We made it to Montana just a little over one month since...

The Yellowstone River in Billings is overflowing its banks like MANY rivers...

Billings was much more industrialized than we expected with oil pipe lines...

We played golf at Eagle Point Golf Course in Billings. Pretty course,...

The countryside is different here. It's much drier and more rocky, but...

Guess whose pink ball is so close to the cup. Do I...

Pretty scenery on the golf course in Billings, MT.

Lots of water on the course too. We only lost one ball...mine....

The Eagle Rock Golf Course had a really nice restaurant and pro...

When we got to Billings we had an appointment at an auto glass place to fix our windshield. We thought we saw a crack, which was very frustrating since we just had the entire windshield replaced before we left home. Well, as it turned out, the crack was only a slight imperfection in the glass and not a structural issue, so we left and headed to the campground about 4 miles further down the road.

We were surprised how industrialized Billings is. There are lots of oil pipelines, coal and of course, coal trains to transport the coal. We just weren’t expecting this type of city .

After we set up, Jay and I decided to go out to an early dinner. We still hadn’t gone out to dinner for our anniversary which was last Saturday night (33 years!), so we found a restaurant that we like at home, Texas Roadhouse, and finally called this our anniversary dinner.

Around 10pm, I took Duke outside and noticed that it was barely past dusk. The sky was still visibly blue and I could see at a distance for quite some way. Guess we're pretty far north for sunset to be so late.

Tuesday morning, Jay went biking and met a really interesting biker when he stopped for coffee. It turned out that this biker is from Sweden and likes to bike through the U.S. About every 4 weeks he finds a marathon to run and his goal is to run marathons in every state.

When Jay got home we went out to play golf at Eagle Rock Golf Course. We had planned on only playing 9 holes which turned out to be good because the afternoon temperatures soared into the 90’s. Up until now, it’s been pretty cool while we were in Wyoming and even yesterday here in Montana even to the point where we had to use the heater quite a few evenings.

After golf we headed to Walmart and decided to do some stocking up on supplies, so we don’t have to buy much when we get to Canada and we’ll be there for almost a month. We understand prices are quite a bit higher there and we’re not sure if we can get all the things we may want or need either. By the time we got done, the back of the car was full, but Jay managed to find space in the storage compartment under the RV for everything.

As usual, Duke was very happy when we got back to the RV. We took a long walk but he was in a hurry to get home. I’m not sure if it was the heat or that dinner would be waiting for him…. Got to be the food!

Tomorrow on to Butte, Montana….
