Wanganui's paddlesteamer and Cpt birdseye lookalike

South island visible from highest point

Our quiet, out of town, campervan site has suddenly changed while we were away exploring Wanganui today. This morning there were three other families enjoying the brisk start to the day and we had the kitchen to ourselves, this evening a large under 16 sports team has descended. Swarmed by more like!

I am surrounded by athletic 14 year old girls but it is not quite turning out like that dream I had the other night - more's the pity. We are trying to get the boys to sleep but there is way to much oestrogen with screams, tears and the TV lounge packed with soap watchers as I write.

All in all a good day. Wanganui is a pleasant riverside town with art deco buildings and an old steamship. The Whanguni river was described as the Rhone of the South and there was quite a tourist trade before the first would war. The good weather has stayed meaning views of snow-covered volcanos. Fab.
