I didn't wake up until lunch time today, after such a late night. And not long after I woke up, I had a call from Bill, in Guangzhou. He had some free time, and wanted to come and visit. When I asked when he would like to visit, he surprised me by saying that he would like to come this afternoon. He said that he should be at my house by about 6pm, so we decided that he would come to my house, and then we would go for dinner, and on to the hospital to visit Julie.
By the time he arrived, I had had a call from Blue Sky, to say that he was coming over too, and we could all go together, for dinner, and hospital visiting. It is good to see them all, and I was looking forward to spending some quality time, with good friends.
Before Blue Sky arrived, I told Bill of my decision to leave China. He was a bit shocked, but decided that it must have been fate, that made him come to visit today!!
We were all nearly ready to leave the house, when I had a call from Rony, looking for someone to have dinner with. We arranged to meet at the Dynasty, in about half an hour. So we got a taxi, and headed firstly to Walmart to buy Julie some cakes, and some milk. Then into another taxi, and off to the Dynasty Hotel, to meet Rony.
When we arrived, I told Rony my news, so now all of those who really matter know what is going on. We had a great dinner, ordering four dishes from the Western menu, and shared them all. I think even Blue Sky enjoyed it. He is not so keen on Western food, but seemed to do pretty well tonight.
Rony decided to go with us to visit Julie, so he set off on his scooter, while we waited to get a taxi. He met us outside the building of the hospital, where Julie is. When we got up to her room, it was great to see that she is obviously greatly improved.
Blue Sky had spoken with her mother on the phone, and she told him that the doctors have said that she is able to leave the hospital when she is ready, but they want to ensure that all the financial details are taken care of, and the insurance claims are all settled, before they leave Zhaoqing.
We did not stay for a long time, because it was getting a little late, but the others all chatted away with Julie's Mum and Dad, and I had a good talk with Julie. She is bright, and seems really back to her old self. She said that she has been out of bed at last, and can get around, but has to take things easy. The only thing she cannot manage yet, is the squat toilets. But she is improving very well, and is hoping to be back at school by the beginning of next term. So that is really good news.
When we left, Rony headed off on his scooter, and then Bill wanted to walk by himself, so Blue Sky, Julie's Mum and I walked up the road. Mum stopped off at the hotel they were staying at, and Blue Sky and I walked on to the college. He came up, and we talked for quite a while, about life in general, about me going back to Oz, and about his growing career. He is really doing pretty well, and is thoroughly relishing what he is doing.
Bill got back, and very soon Blue Sky left. Bill talked to me for quite a while, about his job. He is not very happy with the nursing, and is trying to find out what he could change to. He has a lot of decisions to make about his future. He said that he does quite enjoy the nursing, but it is a very lowly considered job for a guy in China, and he does not know that his earnings will increase over time, to make it viable to buy a house and raise a family. And the last consideration is the fact that it is not so easy to find a wife, as a male nurse, as it is not a well received sort of careet. And with working shift work, he worries that he would not have the time to dedicate to a family. A lot of decisions for him.
I headed off to bed, just a bit after midnight, and left Bill thinking of his options. Not sure what time he went to bed!!!
