From Rustic Barn Campground & RV Park – Kieler, WI
Slept in later than usual on a moving day but we only had 125 miles to go and decided that we did not have to wake up with the chickens to move this short distance. We left Geneseo at 10:45 with the drive beginning in a misty rain but thank goodness it never developed into anything more severe and at times there was no “moisture” falling at all.
The drive took us about 3 ½ hours but we stopped twice along the way. Once at a Wal-Mart looking for some items we have not been able to find and then a lunch stop since we got the later start wanted to eat before arriving at the park and setting up……….sure glad we did this!
Arriving at Whitetail Bluff Camp & Resort in Cassville, WI I soon realized as Rudy was in registering that there was NO phone service which meant probably NO INTERNET! Was not going down that road again so went in to the office and we decided to go elsewhere as even their WiFi was very limited……..like in the office only and could not do another “Port Gibson” week. The other factor was that even a local business having WiFi would be 20+ miles away!
Now we had to drive those 20+ miles back to Hwy 61 to even get a phone signal to try and find another RV Park for the next eight nights! Long story short…….we found this park and settled for no sewer but do have strong phone signal and a super internet connection with Verizon…………but Rudy is a good “blue tank man”!
For sure, the farther we travel north the harder it is to find parks like we are accustomed too. Very few have “full” hookups, most just water and electric and lots have community water where you fill your fresh water tank and use from it and then refill it with a L O N G water hose. However they charge prices like “full hookup” parks in the south but like I have told Rudy……”when in Rome do as the Romans do” or more aptly put “accept the Yankee way of RVing” and that would mean accepting their style of RV parks.
We finally got settled in and will begin our exploration of this our 10th stop on the Great River Road. This stop will also add a new “state” to our travel map since beginning our full time lifestyle. Finally for those of you who are back in Texas just wanted you to know that we had to use the furnace once the sun went down………61 degrees as I write this with a low of 52 expected overnight and the high today never got into the 70s!
