Soon after arriving in Trujillo, I realised I had to get out of the city ASAP. Together with Charles, Michael, Neil, Scott and Brendon, I went to the nearby archaeological site of Chan Chan. I'd visited so many Inca and pre-Inca sites by this point, that my memories of them were starting to mesh together. However, Chan Chan stood out. It was the only archaeological site I'd visited which still had its original paintwork. Very impressive.
Actually, I just remembered, the paintwork wasn't at Chan Chan, it was at the Temple of the Moon (the site I visited the next day) - see all meshed together.
After Chan Chan, we went to Huanchaco which is a much prettier seaside resort than Trujillo and very popular amongst surfers. I spent most my time on the beach, reading and watching the boys play touch rugby. I did have a go myself but an attempted tackle on Scott did not go according to plan...he fell on top of me and squashed me so much that I could not continue playing. Instead, I had a Sublime ice cream (Sublime is my favourite Peruvian chocolate).
