We parked at the Elks in Portland,Oregon...these Elks Lodge member's RV parks are starting to work out for us as this one is 1.3 miles from the kids! We made the phone call to Mandy and YES! "he" is up so we are heading over there right now!
Where? to the Kids of course! Of course, Yes, it is Mandy, Jason and Dylan that is who. We last saw Dylan 6/9/2010 and now he turn 1 years old on 4/2/2011....we've got to see him and Mandy and Jason too.
Mandy had Dylan in her arms when she opened the door to greet us....Dylan burst into tears and buried his head in Mandy's arms!!! What a shock! Grandpa had a ball cap on his head and Grandpa's eyeglasses had turned dark in the sunlight...so what was a little boy to think? Dylan doesn't know us. We had already recorded two story books (Hallmark) with our voices so he will recognize us if/when we talk with him in person or on the phone-He had those, But he sure didn't know us on first sight.
Dylan is so EVERYTHING! Grandpa got right down on the floor with him and Mandy sat down with Dylan and the introductions were done all over again. This time Dylan smiled and melted our hearts! What a Kid! We both melted the first time he held his arms out for us to hold him!
We spend as many hours as we could with Mandy and Dylan. We were careful not to overstay our welcome per day. Jason works long hours and we did want to not be in the way of family time when he came home from work - tired and hungry too.
Mandy to us to go to a beautiful park full of rhododendrons - all in full bloom-we sure did. And then she asked if we would like to go to the zoo...Yes! That time we showed up at the Kid's house to find Jason home - we thought we messed up and we needed to leave. After all, it was Mandy's birthday! But No, everything was okay because we all were going to the zoo for Mandy's birthday and Dylan's first trip to the zoo (ours too!). Dylan was out of the stroller and on his feet the whole day....he could out run the EverReady Bunny and still be going-Amazing!
Grandpa was on the floor playing with Dylan every day during our visit. He was up and down and picking Dylan up and putting Dylan down - over and over and over again. He was inside with Dylan and he was outside with Dylan everyday.
We both knew all of this would come to a screeching halt...Jason had plans to celebrate Mandy's birthday by taking her somewhere over the weekend so we knew we would not see them again until we got ready to leave.
Meanwhile Grandpa had reached that breaking point...he begged for a pain pill-a real pain pill! He took a Vicodin, heated the hot pad in the microwave oven, and went to bed - pooped but extremely happy!
The kids invited us for BBQ on Sunday - Jason BBQ'd ribs, corn on the cob and Mandy made a pasta salad...Yum! and then all too soon it was reality time ...we were leaving on Monday morning. We will not see the kids until we were back from the rest of our Northern trip - then we will see them again on our way towards home next month.
