Gene & Linda's Alaska Trip travel blog

Today was the worst travel day we have had ~ We left about 9am for Tok, AK ~ we had about 220 miles to go and we knew the roads were bad. So it took us nearly 7 hours to go the distance. Getting through US Customs was nothing at all.

The roads were in a very poor state of repair, with pit holes, gravel, frost heaves and all kind of other poor road situations, including a stop a couple of times due to construction delays ~ not that the road seemed any better. It was gravel and ribbed! So it was bumpity bump all the way. Even once we got in the US side, we had a few miles of pretty good road, but then it went back to the bumpy mess, with gravel and mud here and there. On top of the miserable roads, it rained on and off!!! So mud everywhere ~ you can barely tell what color the truck is.

So needless to see, not much in pictures today ~ only a few. We saw beautiful snow topped mountains between the clouds ~ Nutaotin and Mentasta Mountains ~ part of the Alaska Range. Also Wrangell Mountains. We are staying at the Sourdough Campground. We had reindeer chili and sourdough bread for dinner, tomorrow look forward to a sourdough pancake all you can eat buffet.
