June 18: Arrived Vancouver

An early start to the Toronto airport where Tyler, Terri’s son and her sister Stacey dropped us off. Nice to have them look after us so well.

After a flight delay that would have had us miss our connection in Calgary, Air Canada found us seats on a direct flight to Vancouver. This worked out well as we arrived a half hour early and so met my niece Sheila, at the airport in Vancouver. Sheila, the wonderful girl has come out from Calgary to wish us well on our tour.

Bruce Stevenson, Terri’s uncle picked us all up from the airport and we arrived safe and sound at the Stevenson’s where our bikes and camping gear had arrived some days ago. Looks like everything made the trip in good shape. Bruce and Dianne are riding the tour with us so we are enjoying our stay with them until we ride to Victoria on Tuesday for the mile zero tire dip.

After a compulsory drink Bruce & I unpacked and reassemble the bikes and it looks like they made it in fine shape. We will check them out tomorrow as we do a few k’s around the Vancouver/Burnaby area.

We started our “Carb loading” at dinner when Bruce made enough of his great shrimp pasta dish to feed the entire tour group of 38! No complains, it was wonderful!

June 19 Burnaby

Up early today as the time change has my body thinking it is still 3 hours later than it is. This gave me time to continue to unpack and repack our bike stuff and to begin some journal notes such as this. The day began very overcast with some showers so the election was to do the final shopping before taking the bikes out for a shakedown ride. That was accomplished in the afternoon with a 35 k ride that was just super. The bikes are in great shape and I think ready for the tour! The evening was spent visiting with the Stevenson family and a nice salmon dinner.

June 20 Burnaby

Up early again doing some repacking and attempting to find places for all the stuff we bought yesterday.

Sheila heads back to Calgary today. It was so good to have her with us as we worked to get ready for the tour out here.

After Sheila departed we went for a nice 70 k bike ride around Burnaby/Vancouver. On the ride we stopped to visit with another lovely niece, Erin who lives in South Vancouver. A nice visit and then back to the Stevenson’s to get ready for dinner with good friends from the valley who are coming in to see us.

Off to Victoria tomorrow for the mile zero wheel dip
