Sandie and Don Cross Country Trip travel blog

Ran 6 miles down Boulder Highway at 5:30AM to avoid the heat of the day. After Breakfast we packed up the motor-home and drove to Campers World for an oil change, then stopped at Wal-mart for necessary supplies and California here we come. Well, it wasn't that easy. It seems the GPS decided to take us out of town on a convoluted route to I-10. First we hit closed roads due to construction, then the GPS got confused and kept giving wrong directions. Sandie said it kept loosing the satellite. How on earth can you loose a satellite? They are up there in the sky! I can tell you we saw a lot of the suburbs of Las Vegas. An the other thing. Drivers there are very impatient. I have never had so many people beeping their horns at me. Of course when you don't know where you are going and in a motor-home it might aggravate some folks. They just cut you off, they come up on the right side going like a bat out of #0#0 trying to get in front of you.

Well, we finally made it to I-10 and had an enjoyable ride driving through the Mojave Desert for a long way. At one point we were at 4500 feet, then we are at 600 feet, then we are back up to 4500 and it just kept going like that it seemed for miles. The desert is beautiful in it's own way. It is so different than Utah, Arizona, Texas. The colors, texture, forms are completely different. Once we were out of the mountains crossing over from NV to CA, driving took on a whole different perspective. We even drove through the town that Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were from. They named parkways after them.

Does anyone in California not speed and drive like they are going to a fire? You know I only drive the RV between 55 and 60 so can you imagine how it was like on the freeways? We were getting close to our destination and suddenly we are on side streets and I look up and we are at the Angles baseball stadium with the lights on and all people with Angles hats and shirts on walking to the stadium. WE were even on Gene Autry Way. He owned the A's. This is Anaheim. What on earth are we doing here? Then we are in the Vietnamese section of town, I think the street signs were in Vietnamese also. I can't remember. Guess what, GPS decided to loose the signal again. Well after missing out turns to different roads and having to turn a half dozen times, we finally arrived at out destination. We were so excited to see Karyn Higgins Frisch and her family!! When Karyn was a young teenager, she came to work at the store, and continued with us for many years. She moved to CA 20+ years ago and this is the first time that we have seen her. She is exactly the same, sweet and pretty. We also had the treat of seeing her sister Karolyn, who lives a couple of miles down the road. We had a wonderful visit with them and Karyns husband Johnny made us some great meals! Dylan and Danica are Karyn's children and Luke is Karolyn's son,it was so nice getting to know them. It was hard to say goodbye:(
