Jay & Gwen's 2011 Adventure travel blog

We have one issue to solve. The TV stand for the big TV in the Living room broke. So we went to Home Depot and bought some parts so Jay could create a new stand. If we had wall space we could mount it, but we do not. We had been traveling with it under a console table and the vibrations must have been too much for the plastic. Tomorrow Jay will see if it works, but it was already 7:15 and dinner was calling. We went up to the pool last night after dinner. Nice way to cool down and relax from the day of traveling. Left Riverside RV campground about 9:15 and went for gas before we hooked up the toad. Gas was $3.67 a gallon for 27.18 gallons and $3.829 for 21.42 gallons for a total of $182 for the first stop. Hit the road with full tank of gas about 10am from Bullhead City, AZ. We crossed the bridge into Laughlin, NV and proceeded 18 miles to Hwy 95 South. Five miles later we were in California, finally on day four we made it to our third state. This road is 17 miles of roller coaster, up and down and rough. Windows are open and it is noisy. Can hardly hear the radio. If it heats up we will close up and turn on the air, but right now it is nice. We have 2 Tom-Toms and I could not find either one before we left, so it is a good thing that we have Microsoft Streets & Trips with GPS. I planned the trip using this software and now have the laptop open for directions and writing what I see. We are now on a portion of Historic Route 66. This is a cut over to I40. Today we are missing Ellie’s birthday party and the Ice Den, how we would love to be there with her.

Rough road along I-40 at Ludlow, CA, it sure needs repairs along the right lane. Jay is still driving. I am able, but I make him nervous and I prefer to surf the web and follow the GPS. Green scrub grass along the desert with mountains in the distance. You sure can picture the old western movies being filmed here, they could still film here as there are few signs that it is 2011, electric poles on the other side and not many towers on this side of the road. Gas here in CA is about $4.69 a gallon - $1 more just for crossing state lines. We should be at our destination for today in about an hour. Saw a mountain in the distance that still had snow. Saw one near Vegas too, hard to believe that the snow is still there this far south. Passed a rollover accident a few miles back in the median. It appeared that the passengers were OK and only damage to the car and trailer. The young men must have been wearing their seatbelts. CHiPs were there so we just kept going. Arrived here in Boron, CA about 2:30pm PDT. Nice level pull-through so we did not have to disconnect the toad. No TV here, Jay hasn’t made his stand yet, so XM radio will have to do for the hockey Stanley Cup game 2 and the NASCAR NNS race from Chicagoland… radio works well. Tomorrow we leave early so we can get to Coarsegold, CA before noon when the office closes. See you then.
