This old timer narrates the story about (yep, you guessed it) -...

- - - a gunfight that took place - - -

- - - on this very street in the late 1800's.

The Sherrif wounds and arrests - - -

- - - the "bad guy", who later expired from natural causes.

This USFS campground is very nice. Out of the fifty some odd site only three are occupied; the Campground Host, a family with children and us. The family with children go somewhere early in the morning and don't get back till after dark, so the only sounds are the wind in the pines, the birds and the squirels.

I got a bucket of water and scrubbed the bugs of Eagle's nose. That made Eagle look like new and made me feel a lot better.

About 6:00 this evening we drove into Deadwood to get some bread and milk. Deadwood is another little old mountain town that was full of history, but losing people and dying from lack of commerce. So, the casinos came in, converted most of the building to "gaming" establishments, built hotels and nice new 4-lane road through the mountains and turned it into another touristy casino town.

At five minutes to seven a group of dubious looking gents dressed in 1880's attire strolled onto the street in the block between the Silverado casino and the Franklin Hotel. They set up a portable sound system (some of these characters were miked) and put out orange traffic cones at each end of the block. Let the gunfight begin!

Later,

Gary
