On Friday, we moved the RV over to Red River and parked at the Red River RV park, which is right outside of town and backs up to the Red River, a pretty, rocky stream filled with several types of trout. Fred didn’t have time to fish this time though, since we were there for the motorcycle rally over Memorial Day weekend. Although one of the group tried his luck at fly fishing twice, he had no bites at all - Gerry did have fun anyway. Also at the RV park were friends Mary, Wayne, Stephen and Stephanie. Fourteen other NTHOG friends stayed at a motel at the other end of town, and we spent most of the weekend riding together and having a lot of fun! We had decided to chip in for food supplies and cook all of our suppers at the party room at the motel. That was a wise decision – it saved each of us money, we ate well, and also it was lots of fun to be together. Steak, chicken and burgers were the main meals, and we also had lots of baked potatoes and salads. Morning meals included sausages, pancakes, and Mexican style migas. Everyone took turns cooking and cleaning up, although Bob did most of the grilling. We rode the Enchanted Circle through Qwesta, Taos, Angel Fire, and Eagle Nest, down south through Mora and over some spectacular curvy mountain roads. We toured the Vietnam Memorial State Park and enjoyed beverages at the old saloon in Eagle Nest. Some of us also ventured into town one evening to listen to a band play at one of the saloons. I am pretty sure we will all return next Memorial Day weekend for the next Red River Rally!
Monday morning the rally was over, and everyone except Mary, Wayne, Fred and I had to return to the Dallas area. The four of us, though, loaded our bikes into our respective toy haulers and headed a little south for a few more fun days in Taos.
