Sandra & Wayne Europe 2011 travel blog

Well now our holiday starts! Fist hurdle - get hire car. Not as easy as it seems when your wallet has been stolen, the new credit card doesn't work and you have no license! After 3/4 of an hour on the phone at the hire company (they were really great about it all) and your lovely wife having the international license (which is 2 years out of date) we are all good to go - well nearly! 1) how do you unlock the doors? 2) where is the hand break? And yes we are not even out the drive. So now we are on the road! with a 'you're getting to close to this side' and 'your other left' and 'this side of the road' and 'we'll all be killed' from the GPS we are on our way, but where to. We decided to head to Geneva but wanted to visit one of the villages we didn't get to on the bikes. This town was Kayserbourg and when got there was just as pretty as the others with the added advantage of having nesting storks on the roofs. We got there just as they closed for lunch, 12 to 2:30 every day, maybe that's some thing we can think about! So we had lunch but to the disgust of the local proprietor we just want a roll which just isn't down in France! Oh well to bad for him as we couldn't fit any more in!

Off we went to Geneva and what a let down! For the place it holds on the world stage it's a dive! We drove around and around (courtesy of the GPS who we will call HER from now on) and the place was just yuck so we decided to head for a hotel out of town and by the lake if we could. So set the destination in HER and off we went. Couldn't find the hotel so followed the signs to the camping ground. For €60 we got a luxury

'tent' complete with kitchen, by the lake and with a great restaurant. What more could you want. Great views and great food and beer!

You can keep Geneva but love the lake!
