Made it to the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area where we plan to stay for a month.

We're actually staying at the Oceana facility which is where the "fleet" pilots are located. These pilots are aleady highly trained and they fly missions from here. It's also the home of SEAL team 6 who was responsible for finding and eliminating Osama Bin Laden. That being the case, security is extremely high here. The commissary and Navy Exchange are not even on the base, but you can't even get into the building without showing military ID. We've only been on base twice since we've been here and they not only want to see Steve's ID, but mine as well. They look inside the car each time and we have seen some cars they've pulled over to search the trunks, etc. So far we haven't been searched, but we have DOD (dept of defense) stickers on both the bus and car so I guess between that and having a dog in the backseat, they don't suspect us of any terrorism activity. The campground is not on base, so we only had to show our military IDs to check in, however, it is gated and you have to have a code to get in the gate.

We did go down to the Norfolk Naval Station where Steve was when he was stationed here. Took pictures of some of the ships in port for your perusal.

Also saw the USS Cole here. That's the ship that was hit by a terrorist suicide bomber on October 12, 2000 while in Yemen. Seventeen sailors were killed and 39 were injured.

It's flying the Union Jack flag, which is red and white stripes with a rattlesnake on it which says "Don't tread on me." Steve said that flag is only used when in port or at anchor.

It's been really hot here, in the mid 90s each day, but then we have severe thunderstorms in the late afternoon. Our power went out last night for four hours!!!!! Steve had to start the generator so I could see the final episode of Dancing with the Stars last night.
