Our Journey to Italy and Switzerland 2011 travel blog

We are in Lauterbrunnen, which is a little village in the Alps. Yesterday we road the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Brig. In Brig we switched trains, actually we road on five different trains yesterday to get here. Left at 9:15am got here at 5:30pm. The Glacier Express was incredible. We did share our car with a tour from Taiwan, we were the only occidentals and there was lots of chattering. But we met a few that spoke English and as soon as we said we were from Las Vegas...they smiled and said we love Las Vegas. The train goes very slowly up into the mountains it was a wonderful trip. I know I saw Heidi, but she didn't wave. To be honest that is what you see here. Alpine houses, goats and cows, all wearing bells so they cling clang all around. Incredible mountains, wild flowers everywhere and waterfalls like Yosemite. We took two cable cars up to the Schilthorn, it is the top of the world. We could see across the mountains to where the worlds largest Glacier is. We went early and were glad, because a few minutes after we arrived the clouds came in and the view went away. There was a tour group at the top and there was a man playing the Alp horn which is 20 ft long. It rests on the ground because it is so long. It sounded wonderful. Then we took two more trams down to the other side of the valley. We walked back to our village and stopped off half way to see a waterfall that is inside a cave. The three mountains above, Ogre,Monk,Young frau snow melt goes to this fall. It was warm outside, short weather, but when you went into the mountain and climbed to the top of the falls, it was cold and dark and of course wet inside. George made a film of it and we will attempt to upload it later and add the pictures of the day. We came back for lunch and then took a "cog" train to Wengen, which is up the mountain on the other side of the valley. It is a fancier place then ours with lots of high end hotels and shops. Most of the shops and hotels are closed now, because it is off season and will open again June 1st. We've had to alter some of our plans because there is still lots of snow on the upper mountains and the lifts are not all open.

More later with pictures.
