Our little road trip - 2011 travel blog

Another road day with very little excitement. In fact, other than having to disconnect the jeep in order to turn around and get into a gas station, it was pretty blah. Sorry for another day of no photos and no gripping stories from the road.

We left Grand Island at about 9:00, but after a short trip east on I-80 to get gas (the scene of the great jeep disconnect), we didn’t really get on the road till a little after 10:00. One strange thing when we filled up though; Regular unleaded was $3.99 per gallon and Super unleaded was $3.89, so guess what I put in the bus? Don’t think I have ever seen that before. Oh, and hey Jeff, I saw diesel for $3.89 - just thought I'd let you know. We headed east on I-80 to Lincoln (home of the Cornhuskers), SE on 77 for a short bit, east on Hwy 2, then into Iowa for about 10 minutes on I-29, through St. Joseph and into Kansas City MO, then I-70 for awhile, then a bunch of back roads to Knob Noster State Park.

Nice little park, not many campers, saw some deer, picked some ticks of my pant leg, ate some dinner and looked for bombers – we are right next to Whiteman Air Force base which is the home for the USAF B-2 Stealth bomber fleet. Oh, well…the campground host says that when one takes off, we’ll know it, but so far it’s been quiet except for a couple helicopters.

We thought about going back into Kansas City to catch a baseball game tonight and add Kaufmann Stadium to our list of places we have seen Major League games, but it’s over an hour drive back there so it ain’t gonna happen. Tuesday and Wednesday night we will be in St. Louis so maybe we can catch a game there.

That’s all from Missouri for now. I told you it was blah.
