New Mexico is quite a change. The high desert is very dry (duh) and very bleak. They say they are having a drought. I was disappointed in Santa Fe. I thought is would be "quaint." I guess the old town is. We did venture down there the first night and ate at "Tomasita's." It is a favorite place of Randy Travis. It was very good food. We visited a local flea market of Southwestern artisans north of Santa Fe. I was able to find a nice leather belt and a Turquoise necklace. They had a great farmer's market and we restocked on produce and meat. Our big impression is that Santa Fe is windy and dusty. It really drove us nuts on the

on our last night (14th). The wind was howling and rocking the RV. It just wasn't comfortable.

We did have the opportunity to go to Rancho de los Golandrinas (Ranch of the Swallows). It is a living history museum that is very well done. They also had a civil war reenactment going on. I attended lectures on civil war era medicine (retired surgeon) and a presentation about the buffalo soldiers. They consider themselves to be educators rather than reenactors. It was a great experience. I learned a lot and was reminded of things my parents had shared with me. My mom and dad were real history buffs and we had visited historic sites associated with Blackjack Pershing, (named for leading the black soldiers). It was great!!! I took alot of pictures of the hacienda and the surrounding areas. I especially enjoyed the spinning and weaving exhibits...I didn't take any pictures of that. It was very well done.
