We began our morning with a flight on Ryanair to the Prestwick/Glasgow airport. Their motto is "Fly Cheaper." That catches your attention, doesn't it? The 30 minute flight from Ireland to Scotland cost €12 per person the day we flew. One suitcase costs €25 - and the weight limit is 44 pounds. Carry-on is limited to 22 pounds. Excess weight in baggage costs a lot. Shortly before the flight a one hour delay and a new gate were announced. But the adventure did not end there. During the flight, the stewardess sold smokeless cigarettes, phone cards, and snacks. It was quite an experience!
Our new Scottish car is a Skoda diesel (avg. 55 mpg) and we like it a lot.
This morning we visited the Culzean Castle. General Eisenhower was granted lifetime tenancy of the top floor in gratitude for his role in World War II. The park grounds are the most beautiful we have seen.
The rest of the day was travel as it is several hours to Oban, where stayed the night. The Scottish roads are still challenging, but Don is doing a great job of navigating the terrain. As we got into the country and started winding around Lochs, the roads became very narrow. At one point traffic was stopped in both directions because of an accident. We had no idea how they would get "recovery trucks" (tow trucks) in and out, but they managed. Amazing!
We arrived Oban late in the afternoon. Tomorrow we tour the islands of Mull and Iona.
