Natchez is quaint city sitting high above the Mississippi. Next to New Orleans, it was the busiest port on the river. It is currently above record flood stage and will crest another 10 feet. We had lunch at a place down by the river. There are currently sand bags across the street in the event the river reaches that height. Our waiter who lives across the river in Vidalia said he had all his furniture and belongings loaded and shipped to higher ground and that town will definitely flood out. We saw many beautiful homes walking around town. A sign of the wealth from river and cotton trade in the 1800's. There are many empty store fronts and being Wednesday afternoon it was very quiet, hot, and humid.
