Washington DC - The lone trip travel blog

Got up early this morning as I needed to be in DC early. After getting dressed and went down to get a bite to eat. Next it was a short (5 blocks) walk to the metro station. I jumped on the first train (Bart type rail) and 6 stops later I was at Capital South station. Walking in the direction of the capital I noticed lots of large buildings, First was the Supreme Court, the House and Senate offices. Then there was the capital building. I thought I needed to be at the capital at ten but later found out it was eleven. But after going through the security check point (very close to the airport TSA) I was able to get on an earlier tour. The tour covered most of the capital and she said I could get a house pass from my local representative. In our case that is Duncan Hunter jr. So I walked over to the office building to get the pass. In just a few minutes I had it and back through the security check point and I was on my way to the house chamber. At 1pm the house came to order. The acting leader had the chaplain said his blessing and then the pledge was said. Next was a number of one minute speeches. Most of these were about gas prices, jobs, and healthcare. Next the Rep from New York started talking about the bill moving through the house now. I must say most of the chairs were empty so they were speaking for the camera (cspan)

Later I went to the American Indian Museum. It was very interesting and was a nice stop. On the way back I stopped at the pentagon memorial for those who died on 9/11. One of the benches was in memory of a Commanding Officer I had while being stationed in San Jose CA.

Then I was tired and time to come back to the room. I hope to get some pictures posted and will give you the link later.
