This morning we left our personal youth hostel in Angelsea and set off on our journey through the last part of the Ocean Road and on to Melbourne. On the way, we initially stopped off in Torquay and Queenscliff – both totally isolated but we are sure they are much more lively and appealing during the summer months. Right now they are a little reminiscent of the Isle of Sheppey in Kent.
Geelong was more of a major town so we stopped here a while and walked along the ocean front and the end of the pier.
Then the scary bit – the drive into Melbourne. We had planned the route well to avoid the city centre, so confidently John took the wheel and Eva took the map. Unfortunately it didn’t quite go to plan and sure enough we found ourselves driving through the city centre at rush hour! However, good luck was on our side and after discovering that initially we were on totally the wrong side of the city to reach our destination of Brunswick, we turned a few corners and found ourselves on the road that we intended to be on initially and in no time at all we were at our friends’ house in Brunswick. It was lovely to see D and A again and we had a great evening together at a trendy bar and later a Veggie restaurant in Brunswick Street – what a great start to our stay in Melbourne. We just know we will have a fabulous time here.
