Alexander Nevski Church

Main Square in Sofia with City Mosque

Sadly my first impressions of Bulgaria have not been positive due to the unfortunate circumstance in which my wallet was raped by an officous bus inspector who fined me for failing to perforate the tickets which I had bought on boarding the bus. Despite what my Brother says about the universal love espoused by Communism I cannot think well of a system which allows the exploitation of the ignorant when that ignorance is harmless and easily rectifiable. And indeed from the Ossies that I have meant in Berlin, it seems Soviet Communism bred a fear which caused the isolation of the indiviual from all others, rather than the united society, which Jake assures me was the goal. You wonder how they missed the mark by so much: it was not unknown for spouse to spy on spouse under the ausipices of Stasi state security.

Shane is nevertheless impressed by the Sehenswürdigkeiten in Sofia. Of course he is thrilled over having roman Ruins scattered about every subway station and underpass. Any bit of mouldy wall would please him however.
