The West Trip 3-20-2011 to May 2011 travel blog

Although we were having a good time on our trip, it seems that 6 weeks out must be our absolute maximum time to comfortably be away from home. As we planned our route home from Sequoia we at first were going to make a stop at the Grand Canyon as well as some National Monuments along the way. We kept streamlining our trip home to long days of driving to get back home via Interstate 40...old Route 66. We have both traveled this road as children on family trips and together years ago. We did stop at a wonderful National Monument outside of Flagstaff where there are some accessible cliff dwellings and were prepared for a hike down for a closer look when my finger locked causing me to spend the next 3 hours in the Flagstaff Hospital ER. I just taped my hand closed and we did look at the exhibits and took some photos which will be uploaded soon. So our planned stop to hike at the Petrified forest was eliminated which kept us on schedule. We stayed the night in New Mexico and travelled on to Amarillo. As native Texans....it is always with a sigh of relief when we make it back to Texas soil.
