The knees were tired today so we passed on going to the Amish Flea Market - darn! Instead, we decided to find the nearest store and replenish groceries. We stopped at the office to get directions. The gal in the office was born and raised in the house next door to the RV park. She lived in Florida for a while but missed the peace and serenity of country living, so she happily returned to Amish country and got a job here at the RV park.

The nearest Wal-Mart it turns out is about 20 miles from here. On the way, we stopped at a highly recommended local store, Lehman's, which for the past 55 years has been providing products to the Amish community that are non-electric and what would be classified as old fashioned.
--
Across the street from Lehman's, there were many Amish buggies parked at what looked like a mini-flea market. There were vans and trailers selling farm implements like shovels, hoes and rakes. There were also lots of buggies going up and down the streets and lots of Amish people walking around. Evidently, Saturday in Kidron, Ohio, at Lehman's is a big shopping day for the Amish.
--
When we first entered Lehman's, we were surprised at the size of it, with items hanging from the ceilings that I have not seen in a usual store for years, like washboards, hand grinders, tin buckets, cast iron cookware, lamps, etc. We were greeted by an Amish gentleman handing out samples of homemade ice cream, made from a dry mix. It was very tasty. John discovered another table handing out cookies, so that was my breakfast - cookies and ice cream. Works for me.

Around the corner was a candy area with all the kinds of candy from our childhood like marshmallow peanuts, neccos, red hots, rootbeer barrels, lemon drops, and Black Jack gum, which I used to steal from my older brother Gene. We bought a Big Hunk, a favorite of both John and I.
--
There were free samples of homemade granola, granola bars, sauces, and popcorn. Being a popcorn fanatic, I got some of the locally grown popcorn which supposedly has fewer kernels. The flavor certainly is better than the usual store bought stuff. And then there were the samples of homemade fudge. They really know how to get ya. And I got a half a pound of peanut butter.
--
There were lots of wood burning stoves on display and a kitchen area with things we used to use when I was growing up. There were new stoves and refrigerators made to look old. Our friends Linda and Ray have one of these stoves in their beautiful Tahoe home, but I have never seen the matching refrigerators. Then I saw it. The kitchen set I want! A red stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. I wonder if they will fit in the RV.
--
It was definitely like a walk back through time to explore Lehman's. I felt better about having to give up the Amish flea market.
--
We continued on to Wal-Mart and by the time we had finished our shopping, my knees were screaming for an afternoon of tv. We got home again just before it started sprinkling. I fixed spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and John and I split the Big Hunk for dessert.

The park is almost full for the Mother's Day weekend and there are lots of groups with kids. This is a perfect park for a family get away because it has a pool and other games for kids. We can sit at our dining table and watch Amish buggies and horses go down the road out the front, and a team of horses with an Amish man or woman plowing a field in back of us. Pretty Damn Nice!
