Bull Island alligator

Drove back thru Savannah and north thru Charleston. Buck Hall campground is a nice spot on the intracoastal waterway. We sat by the bank and watched huge tugs, lots of sailboats, lots of birds and even saw dolphins periodically.

The next day we took a foot ferry over to Bull Island which is in the Cape Romaine wilderness area. Got a narrated ride thru the estuary and spent about 6 hours on the island hiking the trails. There were a lot of alligators on this island, one was sunning himself on the edge of the road and we had to pass within 5-6 feet of it! He didn't seem too interested in us. Then hit the beach where lots of oak trees had died and were still standing in the ocean, this area was called the boneyard because of the bleached, dead trees. This is where I found a lot of cool shells, mostly conch like whelks. Then we walked the beach until time to catch the ferry back. We were pretty tired that night, but it was worth it.
