Sunshine at last! Today was a beautiful, sunny day with blue sky!!! We almost forgot what that was like. It was a travel day today and it was another gorgeous drive.

We started out on the interstate where we hit patches of fog over rivers which made for some interesting pictures. Once we got to the capital, Columbus, we wanted to head east on a smaller highway. I had the map in front of me, giving John step by step directions as we entered downtown Columbus. We were looking for Highway 670 off of the interstate - ok, no problem, but wait!!! All of a sudden, we were supposed to move to the right, across four lanes of traffic and take the next exit east. With a rig and tow car as long as us, and heavy on-coming traffic, we could not do it. So, we took the scenic tour of Columbus, Ohio, north until we hit another interstate that took us east where we picked up Highway 62, which is what we wanted in the first place. It would be nice if there had been some kind of notice that the exit was coming up so fast, but what the heck. We are on an adventure. I keep telling myself. It is just one of those things we must deal with when going through heavy traffic and we take it in stride.

Once we got off the interstate onto Highway 62, we could relax and really see the countryside of Ohio, which is just gorgeous. Spring is just beginning in this part of the country. The hillsides are covered with what looks like red leaf maple trees which are just leafing out so they are all orange now, which kind of looks like fall. Some of the trees in the little towns we passed through were fully leafed out and they are just gorgeous, bright red.

We were surprised at how hilly the Ohio countryside is and each valley that we traveled down into had several farms with barns and silos. It all looks like a calendar picture or a jigsaw puzzle picture. Our goal today is Ohio Amish country and in the pretty little town of Danville, we saw our first Amish buggy going down the road. The farms got bigger and prettier the deeper into Amish country we drove. You could tell which farms were Amish because (a) there were no tractors or cars and (b) there was laundry hanging on the clothesline outside. Today must have been laundry day because there was laundry hanging in lots of yards.

I told John that one of these years we should do a tour of farming country and just take pictures of old barns, which are so beautiful and full of character. I especially like the barns with advertisements painted on them, like Mail Pouch Tobacco. We just kept saying how beautiful everything was as we drove along today. It was the slower way to come to Amish country but by far, so much prettier than the interstate which is faster.

We came to the little community of Berlin, Ohio, which is the heart of Amish country. We will definitely have to return to explore all of the many shops. We will be staying for the next week in the little town of Dundee, at the Evergreen RV Park, which is the best rated park in Ohio and one of the top rated in the country with a perfect score. It is a new park, with paved sites and roads, nice grass and gorgeous showers and commercial-type laundry facilities. And we have cable and great WiFi at our site for $42 a nite. We are happy campers/RVers.

The knees are feeling better today. The weather guessers are predicting rain for the entire next week, but that won't keep us from exploring. We are looking forward to many activities and good food in the area. The temperatures here are perfect for us: 65 for a high during the day and 45 for the low at night. Good sleeping weather. We noticed that gas got more expensive the further north we came and it is now over $4.10 a gallon. We paid $3.69 in Louisiana.
