Rubbing the lion's tail for luck

Nanjing Street - near our hotel

We successfully navigated getting on a plane, negotiating a taxi, finding the hotel and by mid afternoon arrived in Shanghai. Shanghai is a vibrant, bustling financial giant of a city. The architecture is amazing, with a wide variety of extremely tall buildings in the Pudong area. The Bund is filled with lovely buildings dating from 1900-1930, all extremely well preserved and still in use. We walked around, just getting a feel for the town.

I like Shanghai. My father was here in the 1930s and I have always wanted to visit. The river gives the city the feeling of a center. It is almost as large as Beijing but it doesn't feel like it. Our hotel is right in the center of things. More good luck than good planning.
