Living our RV Dream! travel blog

Posting this a day late as we had a very weak WiFi connection!!

Well we had a very nice, interesting and short trip today. I did not feel sleepy once! We also stayed off the interstates and found it a lot more interesting driving the back roads through small town America.

Of course my rejoicing is going to be short lived. Tomorrow we will be driving a hundred more miles than today. But we are slowly and steadily moving towards our goal. Our biggest concern is the weather … which we are watching like hawks.

Today we arrived at Okatoma Resort and RV Park in Hattiesburg, MS by 11 am. Wow that was a short drive. This is a very nice park right in the middle of the “country” outside town. It covers many acres and has lots of wide open spaces, small lakes and springs and the RV sites are all very wide. Our only complaint is that their WiFi is very weak and also because we are right out in the boonies I am not able to connect with my Verizon AirCard. Gosh how reliant are we on connectivity to the internet? I certainly am VERY reliant.

Once we were set up we took a drive into the “old” downtown to visit their Thursday Fresh Market. Unfortunately (for me) most of the vendors were selling fresh breads, cakes and cookies. The veggies were quite a price so we passed on purchasing those, but did come away with a low sugar Blueberry Jam and a bottle of honey. Tony also couldn’t pass up on the bread pudding ….. so that was his dinner tonight while I had some of those delicious shrimp we bought yesterday.

Here at Okatoma they have chickens …. Many chickens, that produce many eggs each and every day. They sell these fresh eggs to the RVers for $1.50 per dozen. We went down to the office to buy a dozen.

On our way back from town the thunder rolled and the lightning struck and then down, down, down came the rain. By the time we arrived back at the rig our surroundings were about an inch deep in water. The ground is clay here so the water sits on top and takes and long, long time to drain away. Well the ducks and the geese on the Lake were loving the weather but not so our little Gucci. She greeted us at the door puffing and panting … very distraught. Luckily the storm only lasted just a little more than an hour and then it moved on.

So, tomorrow we move on to Shreveport in North Louisiana …. Speak to you from there!
