My new turnip friend!

Opening scene river from the first Lord Of The Rings film

Drove from Invercargill to Te Anau (Fiordland) making our way up to Milford Sound. Very rainy, windy and cold day today so we've decided to wait until tomorrow to do the Milford Sound trails. Found a Backpackers place to stay just outside of Te Anau, right across from a film scene from Lord of the Rings - the "Dead Marshes" where Gollum guides Frodo and Sam through the swamp, saving Frodo as he falls under spell of the dead that seem to float within it. (That's for all you LOTRs nerds out there just like us) We also stopped in at the Waiau River, to see the "Anduin River" the opening aerial shot of The Fellowship of the Ring showing the forested banks of the Anduin River not too far off from the dead marshes location.

This Backpacker's place has a really cute lodge where the reception, kitchen, dinning room and pool table are located. Jason got us a room due to the weather conditions so we have a washroom with shower in our room which is a true luxury for us since most of our shower facilities have been located in common block areas shared by all. Our room is located down the hill looking over the dead marshes, the room has no heating so we have a little water heater plugged into the wall which is barely omitting any heat at all. It has the appearance of a log cabin which makes it cute and cozy.

We cooked up some dinner in the main lodge kitchen, ate it by the log fire while reading our travel magazines and news paper and retired to our room for the night.
