Our friend Brook joins us today and after an initial catching up breakfast and a planning session, we catch the longtail boat to Raileh Beach. Catching the longtail boat was trickier than I thought as it involved wading out in the sea to climb on the boat – not an easy feat for me (Eva) as the water was up to my waist level and I had forgotten that I was carrying a cloth bag. Needless to say all the contents of the bag were as soaked through as I was. Fortunately the only thing that mattered was my camera and that seemed to be ok. For John, the water was only up to his knees.
Raileh Beach is a stretch of sandy white beach that is attached to Krabi but can only be reached by boat. There are a few shops, bars and cafes here but mainly the activity is swimming or lying on the beach. John and Brook went swimming and I graciously offered to look after their belongings which meant lying on the soft white sand soaking up the sun for a couple of hours. Although we have stayed by other beaches on this trip, this is the first time that I have actually laid on the beach. Given that we have another 12 days in the south, it is likely that I may be doing a bit more of this. After a late afternoon drink, we ventured back on the longtail boat. This time the tide was out so we had to wade out even deeper. The journey back was very bumpy and the water sprayed all over us all the way back making us totally drenched again. It was like a white knuckle ride. Those who know me well will know that I am adverse to boats so you will be very surprised by my choice of transport today. In a moment of madness I have booked a full day island hopping trip tomorrow which involves visiting 4 different islands all by longboat. Am beginning to wonder if this is the right decision. Look out for the next instalment of our blog to see how I fared.
