Elephant in the garden

Today is our last day with Mark and Jaeb. We have spent the last 6 days staying with them in their rural village where they live. This has been one of the best experiences of our trip so far as we have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to experience real life in the village whilst being looked after extremely well by our friends and their family.

We have had such fun here but what we really enjoyed most about our stay with M and J is the time we spent together sitting outside their home, playing games, chatting, eating some most fantastic food and singing along to songs whilst Mark and his friends strum on guitars. We also enjoyed visiting the family’s pig farm which is being developed in the most ecological and humane way. We felt privileged to be invited to the Buddhist temple to take part in a personal family ceremony. We will also remember the morning an elephant was led into the garden and we bought sugar cane to feed to it. So many new and exciting experiences. Most of all though we will cherish the warm heartedness of the people we met and in particular how welcome we were made to feel by M and J and their family who looked after us so well and helped us to feel involved in their lifestyle for this short time. Thank you Mark and Jaeb for a fantastic week and may the new year bring much joy and good fortune to you, your family and your village. Happy Songkran.
