Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler - Winter 2011 travel blog

While there are a number of other smaller furniture shopping opportunities in High Point, the 1,000,000 square feet of show space at Furnitureland South kept us busy for as long as we had the strength to walk. It was hard to believe that this temple of furniture is owned by one family. The beautiful building with an unrivaled depth of inventory was fun to explore even if we didn't have some serious shopping in mind. We arrived here with one goal - replace the massive couch and easy chair that don't comfortably seat two couples with more seating on a smaller scale. But after all our research the last few days, we know that there are many, many seating combinations that would suit us just fine.

We saw many, many unique and innovative furniture choices. But when we saw that dining room table with matching hutch with matching coffee table with matching display case, we were hooked. We have never seen anything like it. It's made in Italy and imported through Canada. The good old days when furniture was actually made here are long gone, but the marketing and retailing infrastructure were already here and remain strong and viable. The furniture we were planning to replace at a later date is all in stock and might just be ready to arrive at home about the same time that we do. Here's hoping that we will have a minute to get rid of the old stuff before the new stuff comes. Anyone interested in some old dining room furniture?
