|as a PS the protests in Cairo were only a few blocks from our hotel. The Friday protest had thousands of people and was peaceful but are driver took us on roads at the edges. That night some protesters refused to mind the curfew and the military moved in to clear the square, because it stops all traffic, closes the museum and hence adversely affects the tourist market. Apparently 2 people were killed and some injured but local Egyptians say that the people injured were "thugs" hired to disrupt the peaceful process. Unfortunately it meant that we were unable to see the Cairo museum, but we felt safe at all times (oftened accompanied by a hired "guide" who is an off duty police officer.
