From Peaceful Pines RV Park – St. Francisville, LA
We moved just a short 130 miles today to the small town of St. Francisville which on the great river we are following finds it sitting on its east bank. The RV park we are in is rather small, located about 7 miles outside St. Francisville and has a lot of “construction workers” calling it home. The staff is very nice and helpful and Rudy has already made friends in the park.
Our next door neighbors are fellow Escapees; transplanted New Yorkers who also enjoy the fulltime RV lifestyle. After trying to get a satellite signal through the many trees in the park, they were gracious enough to allow us to put our satellite dish right next to their dish……good thing Rudy has lots of cable! Then about 3 trailers down, a young man from Grand Isle could not get a signal for his “Dish” network satellite so Rudy used his IPhone App and found the satellites for “Dish” network and told him where to set his dish…….few moments later he was at our rig thanking Rudy for his help. So TV is not such a bad thing…..today it found friendship twice!
This evening we went into St. Francisville for supper to Magnolia Café……recommended highly by the manager of the park. It also was recommended and talked about in the Great River Road book we are utilizing on this journey. This café has been a staple in the town of St. Francisville for many years and presently are located in the 1930s 3 V Motor Court complex which was the first motor court in Louisiana. The cabins have been restored and still house overnight guests while the café is located in one of the former complex buildings as well as a coffeehouse and art gallery in other buildings of this old motor court complex from yesteryear.
The literature we had touted them as having some of the “best” tasting po’boys in the state that invented them……Can say the spicy shrimp and the southwest chicken ones we ate tonight meet that boasting claim; of note, if you ever find yourself here and ordering French fries…...share an order they are huge!
Tomorrow we plan to visit a local state historical sight less than a mile from the park and also pick up some “tourist” info and add this to our GRR highlights for this area and plan our week’s outings while here just outside St. Francisville, LA
Till Later………………….
