La Grange, TX - Trees in middle of street, there were lots...

We’ve got that song playing in our heads. We left the Valley, Thursday, March 31. We were going to wait until Friday, but Jim realized earlier in the week that while we were in Athens, TX that we were only 25 miles from Canton, TX. Do you know what happens in Canton, TX the first weekend of each month? It’s the world’s largest and oldest flea market. It’s called “First Monday Trade Days”. Well, Canton had been on our “bucket list” so we were off! Hated leaving the Valley and all our great friends. But ready to move on.

We took 2 days to get to Athens. Stayed in La Grange, TX the first night. Beautiful park on the Colorado River. The strangest thing, they built the streets “around” the big trees. Something to see.

We had been having problems with Harvey and his chassis batteries. Basically they would just quit working. We’d lose all power to anything on the chassis. That included the gauges, radio, a/c, blowers and engine! We’d get pulled over to the side of the road, wait about 2 minutes and it all would come back on. We’d start the engine and head on down the road. We discovered if we used as few of the chassis items as possible, we wouldn’t have the problem. While in Athens, Jim called an RV place in Lewisville, TX (a suburb north of Dallas). We told them we’d be back on the road on Tuesday, and they said they’d try to work us in.

After the flea market on Saturday and trying to walk the whole 160 acres (needless to say we didn’t make it). We were off to Mansfield, TX to visit our friend Zalema. She is such a pleasure to spend time with. She has a new puppy named Pepe La Peu! What a cutie, but very much a puppy! Her son, Renee came over and took us for a drive into Ft. Worth. Zalema can’t do much walking so we mostly drove around. Got out at Billy Bob’s dance hall. Jim and I both said we would love to go back and do more exploring. That evening, Renee, grilled some wonderful steaks for dinner. Great day!

Monday Jim was up and off to Athens to work with the guy he does contract work with. I had a nice quiet day, got some cleaning done and caught up on laundry.

Tuesday morning we were up and off to Lewisville. Got there about 11. The got our problem with the batteries fixed and also discovered we were having a problem with the house batteries, so another repair. But by 2:30 we were back on the road. So we decided to try to move on to OK City area and get our sight seeing done there. We were in Guthrie, OK (just north of OK City) by 6:00.
