Chesapeake Bay Thousand Trails....

Some of this week has been spent just driving...so a few pictures from different areas...

Yesterday, we were off to explore the areas around Virginia Beach. In Virginia Beach, the 3 mile paved boardwalk parallel to the beach is really nice - shops & landscaping very pretty. However, once off the boardwalk, streets / buildings are run down...you can really tell the current economy hasn't helped this area. We also stopped just down the road at Fort Story to view the first 'landing' lighthouse - 1791. We climbed all 191 steps straight up...no landings to rest on the must lighthouses!

We left the lighthouse and decided to across the 17 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge on to the eastern Virginia. We didn't drive the 80 miles to Chinoteaque (Island of Ponies) but did go to Cape Charles. The islands are also on what is the Eastern fly-way so stopped at the local Ranger Station. They had cameras on nesting Osprey & Bald Eggles...great to see. Then back to the bridge...the bridge's construction is unique to say the least...wonderous to watch the huge tankers cross over the tunnel full of cars. In the middle is a shop & resturant to break the trip...$12.00 to cross and $5.00 to come back

if within 24 hours.

Today, cold & raining. I am catching up on housework and Al is doing bookkeeping. I think we will leave here tomorrow for some place new to explore.
