Leaving Montevideo harbor on Buquebus to Buenos Aires

We enjoyed the cultural offerings in Montevideo. I went to Teatro Solis, their national opera house built in the classic European style to watch, of all things, the digital broadcast of Lucia di Lammermoor from the Met in New York City. The theater is a gorgeous venue and soprano Natalie Dessay was fabulous as Lucia. The next night we saw 'Una Mujer Justa' de Sandor Marai! The Mexican film Biutiful was too tragic for us, but Allen practiced Spanish in the absence of subtitles :). To complete the round of the arts, we stepped into the national ballet theater, next door to our hotel, and saw in Tranvia Llamado Deseo de T Williams. All events were partially subsided by the Uruguayan government!

On to Punta del Este the most expensive city in our whole trip! And also the cleanest! I counted more shops than testaurants in Punta....We decided to explore the country side and went west to Laguna Garzon to look for birds and hopefully a good meal. We found the birds , but no restaurants because the tourist season was over. We did enjoy the cool ocean breezes and two days of rain. Took Buque Bus from Montevideo back to Buenos Aires to relax a few days before returning to Austin. The Aires in BA are fantastic: cool and dry!
