Marcus ponders this meaningful question - he is indeed smelly!
Small (!) castle out of Breda.
This happens a lot.
Amelia beats Marcus over the border to Belguim.
Hi Ad! Hope you are having fun cycling Poland. (Ad found us...
Amelia and skinny friends in Turnhout.
We scooted out of Southern Netherlands through Dordrecht - a lovely harbour town which we had to take so many ferries to get to - where we visited an old 'at home' museum of a former wealthy resident which had the best toy museum in it. We could have stayed there for a long, long time but they wouldn't let us play with the toys...
We had a rare two day stay in Breda, maily because it was so bloody hard to get to - a short ride but in incredible heat (who would have thought, but then it was short lived) with a terrible head wind along very average terrain (truck laden roads etc and no ducks). Marcus had his first trip mishap by taking out a local girl on her bike. His bike mirror is no more which is OK as he can't see the big trucks coming. Here we also did some shopping, washing and bike maintenance. We also visited a very big and impressive Church that the Catholics and Proddies warred over for centuries, defacing each others icons.
On the way to the border town of Barrle Nassau/Hertog we got lost and found by a friendly Dutch cyclist who kindly saw us saftely over the border to Belgium. Where citizens think it is fine to eat chocolate sandwiches. Allllllllllllright! The cyclist (Ad) was kind enough to show us qround the geographical curiousity of his town which sits in two countries but is around 10 ks from the official border. Thanks Ad!
And from here it is into Flanders and Wallonia - but more on that next time!
