The Perth city skyline

Our first glimpse of kangaroos

Headed in to town and after paying $34 Ozzy Dollars for our bed last night. We were delighted to find that the local CAT buses are all free. We jumped on near our hostel and rode the Red Route until we found somewhere interesting to get off. Well, to be more accurate, until we found somewhere that looked cheap to eat. We recalled that someone had recommended Mrs Macs pies and they were a great first taste of Australian cuisine. Jampacked with hunks of meat.

Browsed around the stores in the City Centre, drooling at the nice clothes and the delicious smells coming from all the various bakeries and coffee shops.

When it looked like rain we caught a tourist tram and had a whistle stop tour of the main attractions. The driver was really good fun, laughing and joking all the way and teasing the old dears. We saw the WACA (West Australian Cricket Arena), the Perth Mint and lots of public buildings built by convicts. Some were so good that they were reprieved of their crimes for services to the city. One of the last stops was Kings Park which sits at the top of the hill overlooking Perth city centre and gives fantastic views of the modern skyline.

This evening we cooked our first meal in three months after a quick dash to the local supermarket. We joined the crowd in the communal kitchen and cooked up a storm. The following few hours we spent chatting with fellow Spinners and watching good old TV.
